We’ve officially hit fall: fashion month is underway, leaves are changing, and so will textiles as we head into the cooler months.

So far, if New York Fashion Week is any indication of things to come, transitional layering will take hold, as leather and suede take over textiles, while red, oxblood, chocolate brown take over as hottest hues.

There was a renewed excitement at the shows this season, according to a recent article in Harper’s Bazaar, with the rotating wheel of creative directors and debuts, plus young designers capturing greater attention. There were nine trends, however, that rose to the top.

For one, decorated waists — whether peplums, cummerbunds or bigger, bolder belts — will be a key feature for the Spring 2026 season. Directional basics will be a strong feature for season as designers refresh ways to wear wardrobe staples. “Classic heroes were updated in luxurious fabrics — like the white satin silk bomber jacket at Maria McManus — and colors — like the shrunken v-neck cashmere sweater and classic poplin button-down in pink at Toteme. Shapes were reimagined and made oversized, like Michael Kors's balloon pants, Fforme's XXL car coat, and Campillo's relaxed yet polished tailored suiting,” the article noted.

Festive dressing trends will see more fun return to both day and night dressing, where pom-poms, sequins and feathers will accessorize the everyday. Red outerwear will be big, with bold silhouettes drawing the eye even more. “More is more” will be the approach to layering, with tanks on top of tees on top of long sleeves, and stripes on top of stripes to add depth. Ladylike will meet practicality as closet staples come in softer colors and fabrics.

Silk scarves will be everywhere — as tops, on bags, as shawls — to elevate a look, and blue will prove another key color for the season.

“Every blue from cerulean to cornflower between was seen on the runways and throughout the collections,” the article noted. “Classics such as the blue shirting at GWYN…Brandon Maxwell's perfectly blue crewneck sweater, and Tory Burch's electric wool coat made this color feel like a new neutral.”

What We’re Reading

Cambodia Raises Minimum Wage
Cambodia has approved a new monthly minimum wage of $210 for its nearly 1 million garment, footwear, textile and travel goods workers — well short of the $232 demanded by unions and civil society groups. According to an article in Sourcing Journal, the $2 increase follows negotiations in which both worker and employer representatives avoided recommending a figure, citing economic pressures and the 19 percent in U.S. tariffs. Employers initially pushed to hold wages at $208 to stay competitive.

Explainer: Can Big Fashion Make Recycling Work at Scale?
Europe’s fashion industry is betting big on recycling — but the path forward is still uncertain. According to a recent Business of Fashion article, Industry coalition ReHubs is urging billions of dollars in investment to build industrial-scale textile recycling facilities across the continent, aiming to turn the mountains of clothing waste into feedstock for new products.

Groups Urge White House to Keep De Minimis Loophole Closed
A coalition of business, law enforcement and fentanyl victims groups praised recent executive actions for curbing illicit imports and supporting U.S. manufacturers, but warned the progress could unravel as courts review Trump-era tariffs. In a joint letter, reported on by Just-Style, the groups urged the administration to use executive powers “without hesitation” to permanently close the de minimis loophole, which they say enables the flow of fentanyl, precursor chemicals and other illicit goods into the U.S.
