Further, the luxury sector is expected to continue to slow, leaving fashion firms to grapple with matching supply to demand and rejiggering sourcing relationships accordingly. Finally, apparel is expected to continue to tinker with sourcing maps to find the right mix of risk, efficiency, speed and capabilities. Read the article to learn about what this all means for the year ahead.
What Mexico’s New Tariffs and Trade Restrictions Could Mean for US Businesses
Mexico made headlines with new textile and apparel tariffs as well as tightened eligibility for companies importing raw materials for use on goods bound for export. Sourcing Journal reports one goal of the new exclusions is to close a loophole that some companies have exploited by using Mexico as a duty-free waystation for finished goods en route to markets like the U.S. Further, the restrictions are likely designed to clamp down on firms importing raw materials and inputs duty free only to sell the finished goods domestically. Read the article to learn how this affects logistics firms doing business between the U.S. and Mexico, the impact of potential unintended Harmonized Tariff Schedule classification confusion, and why some say the moves are politically motivated.
